Ship Carbon Neutral with UPS

If you’re interested in reducing your climate impact, UPS’s new carbon neutral program is worth looking into.  UPS has purchased certified carbon credits for their customers to offset the emissions produced by their shipments. Joining their carbon neutral program is a great way for companies to demonstrate their commitment to their environmental impact.

You can learn more about carbon offset and what UPS is doing to help offset climate impact by visiting UPS.com.

It’s a shame that they charge you a $2500 analysis fee to enroll in the program.

Jen – You can ship with the Carbon Neutral indicator for as little as $.05 with UPS Ground packages and $.20/package for any expedited service. The CarbonNeutral Company, whom UPS works with, offers additional programs so businesses can develop comprehensive carbon management plans at additional cost. View UPS Additional Charges

Thanks — UPS has directed us back to you.. Is the carbon neutral option available in NRG for Mac? If so, if you could elaborate on how to set this up, that would be great.

    Response we received from UPS:

As of July 2010, the Carbon Neutral shipping service became available for shipments originating in any of the 36 UPS Enterprise Billing Countries. There are two versions of this service:
The General Service Offering – which you may have heard referred to as the “Transactional” offering – is available to any customer using a UPS-authorized shipping system, including UPS Internet Ship, UPS CampusShip and The UPS Developer Kit. Customers on UPS WorldShip will have access to carbon neutral beginning in January 2011. Customers can only use this service to offset their small package shipping.
The Contractual offering is available through Customer Solutions. It involves a full review of the customer’s carbon output. Customers can use the contractual version to have all of their UPS shipping offset, not just small package.

For the general service offering there isn’t a sign up process. You select the option to purchase offsets for each transaction. I’m not familiar with how NRG has this setup in their software or if the option can be set as a default via a profile.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have questions.
