We recently did a project where weather data needed to be overlayed onto a map. We couldn’t find any public APIs which would return “Weather Channel” like maps with locations plotted so we leveraged Google Maps and the OpenWeather API to produce a map showing only locations which have snow warning or advisories. Weather data is updated every 4 hours automatically so that the map is always current. Selecting a location shows more detail including contact information. Future enhancements could include additional weather alert types or automatic email notifications when weather alerts change.
