NRGship Goes Gold for 2018

For the second year in a row, NRGship has received Gold status thru the FedEx Compatible program. Only a subset of certified solutions receive such status which is achieved thru an extensive annual review process. Certified solutions provide core FedEx functionality, so it’s easy to access the shipping and delivery services you need, from the software you use every day. NRG Software focuses on shipping solutions for businesses that run on macOS and in FileMaker Pro database solutions. NRGship is a parcel and freight shipping solution that allows you to tightly integrate rating, shipping and tracking directly into your FileMaker based business solutions, or it can be run as a standalone application. This provides order entry with estimated ship costs, completely integrated shipping and visibility to shipment status across your entire organization. Many customers utilize this solution because it also supports direct integration with many macOS applications and e-commerce systems.

NRGship end of life for older operating systems due to carrier updates

Some things are built to last forever, unfortunately computer hardware and software is not. IT departments regularly replace workstations as they grow slow over time, stop receiving operating system updates, or fall out of warranty.

If you have an older Mac you’ve probably noticed that you can’t use Safari with many websites. Banking websites require higher security and others like Google Maps utilize features in newer Safari releases.

Recently UPS has begun a process to update their servers for higher security standards. Starting in January 1, 2018, Macs running OS versions less than 10.9 or PC’s with Windows XP will no longer be able to connect to the UPS servers. FedEx performed similar server updates in late 2016 and we expect Endicia (USPS) will disable support as well. NRG currently recommends that users run OS X El Capitan (10.11) or Sierra (10.12) for best performance. If your Mac is not updatable then it would need to be replaced with newer hardware that can run a more recent OS release.

You can find more information regarding the security updates the UPS website.

Get more information on upgrading to OS X El Capitan (10.11) at apple.com.

macOS 10.13, also known as High Sierra is scheduled to be released on Monday, September 25. High Sierra is is a free update from Apple. It will run on most any Mac made since 2009 and is considered a maintenance update. However, there are some changes which break compatability with applications. NRGship for UPS has been tested under High Sierra however we highly suggest users wait to upgrade to insure compatibility across all installed applications.

NRGship for FileMaker Compatibility with macOS 10.13, High Sierra

macOS 10.13, also known as High Sierra is scheduled to be released on Monday, September 25. High Sierra is is a free update from Apple. It will run on most any Mac made since 2009 and is considered a maintenance update. We have done cursory testing with NRGship and FileMaker v11 thru v16. While High Sierra is supports 32-bit applications, we have found that 32-bit versions of FileMaker (all releases up to and including v13) will crash under general use. NRG recommends that users of High Sierra update to FileMaker v14 or higher. Stay tuned for more information from FileMaker, Inc. upon High Sierra release.
