NRG provides shipping solutions for Claris FileMaker Pro for over 20 years

We were recently doing some documentation cleanup and I noticed an image that looks like it could go back to 2004 or so, and it got me thinking about how long we’ve been doing shipping solutions for Claris FileMaker Pro. According to WayBack, we released our first postal solution (FileMaker Pro 4) in early 2003 and our first UPS solution (FileMaker Pro 6) in early 2004 during the Apple Aqua interface phase. (Apple recently announced macOS 26 which will have a new software design called “Liquid Glass.”)

We’ve heard objections over the years by other FileMaker Developers where they are hesitant to implement solutions that they themselves did not create because of future support. Over the past 20+ years we have continually provided award-winning support, updates and new functionality due to carrier API technology and other business changes.

Using NRGship on Older Macs (2025)

Recently, macOS versions like 10.15 (Catalina) stopped working properly with UPS.com and FedEx.com for basic features like tracking.

We highly recommend updating to macOS 11 (Big Sur) for any Mac released since 2014. You can find more information on supported hardware for macOS Big Sur on the Apple website.

The upcoming macOS 26 (Tahoe) release this fall will require a Silicon Mac or one of the last 2019/2020 Intel Macs.

We do not recommend updating older Intel Macs to newer OS versions like Sonoma or Sequoia as these versions are meant for newer Apple Silicon Macs and performance and compatibility will be degraded.

NRGship provides UPS® Track Alert add-on to Pro software

Over the years we’ve had many requests for the ability to see UPS delivery photos inside of NRGship. We’re pleased to announce that we’re the first UPS Ready® solution provider to offer this functionality. Previously, you’d have to open the tracking link for UPS.com to view the photo which would be available for a limited time. Many customers then archive that photo for proof of delivery. With this new functionality it’s all contained directly in NRGship Pro for UPS which provides easy access.

UPS Track Alert also notifies immediately on delivery without the need to constantly track shipments. This can greatly reduce overhead of internal systems which use excessive resources for this task. It also improves customer service efficiency since the most recent shipment history is available.

Customers using NRGship FM for UPS can leverage UPS Track Alert webhooks directly in their solution files by using a custom webhook endpoint. Check out this support article for more details on using webhooks with Otto from Proof+Geist.

UPS SurePost® & Ground Saver® Changes

Starting April 2, 2025, UPS will replace the name SurePost® with Ground Saver® as its economy product. For Direct-to-Consumer customers looking to reduce costs while maintaining a high level of service or for those shipping lower value merchandise, UPS Ground Saver provides the efficiency and reliability of the UPS Ground network – the premier ground service in the industry. This change will appear in all shipping, billing, pricing systems and labels.

UPS Ground Saver® in NRGship for UPS

In addition, the free Declared Value Coverage will be reduced from $100 to $20/package. If additional liability is needed above $20, NRGship Pro for UPS customers can purchase InsureShield® Coverage starting at $1.00 per $100 of insured value, up to a maximum liability limit of $5,000 per package.

FileMaker Pro HTML Editor

Recently someone had asked about how to implement the Syncfusion Rich Text Editor in Claris FileMaker Pro for editing HTML content for use in marketing emails. Syncfusion provides over 90 components with a consistent look and feel that are easy to implement in FileMaker web viewers. Small businesses can utilize a free license with Syncfusion to provide enhanced interface elements inside of FileMaker Pro.

With a FileMaker web viewer you can make use of JavaScript to add functionality in FileMaker that doesn’t exist. By creating a basic HTML template which gets dropped into a web viewer control, the Syncfusion Rich Text Editor can update fields in FileMaker Pro by calling FileMaker scripts.

NRGship Pro for UPS now provides UPS Mail Innovation Rating

With the recent changes to UPS SurePost® services, UPS Mail Innovations® (MI) is a cost effective alternative to standard UPS services. Previously, there were limitations where NRGship could not provide contract rating for MI shipments but new functionality has been provided as part of our UPS Ready® partnership allowing NRGship to display these rates. This allows NRGship to provide accurate rate comparisons across all UPS service offerings.

UPS® SurePost will no longer deliver to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Territories.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced several changes to its Parcel Select service that will significantly impact UPS SurePost. Parcel Select is designed for high-volume shippers to enter packages for delivery through the USPS, giving UPS and other high-volume shippers flexibility to leverage the postal delivery network for final-mile delivery.

NRGship Compatibility with macOS Sequoia

macOS 15, also known as Sequoia was released on September 16, 2024. Sequoia is is a free update from Apple. It will run on most any Mac made since 2018, however this is considered a major OS release. In our testing, Sequoia performs best on modern day Macs with Apple Silicon processors. NRGship for UPS, NRGship Pro for UPS and NRGship Pro for FedEx have been tested under Sequoia however we highly suggest users wait to upgrade to ensure compatibility across all installed applications. For customers using NRGship with FileMaker, please check Claris FileMaker release notes for any issues.
